Bridge of Allan Highland Games

Date: Sunday the 4th August 2019

Had a very good day with several Brethren from the daughter Lodges of Stirlingshire and further afield. Brother Ricky McConnell had the foresight to book a stall at the games and his enthusiasm was evident on the day. He organised the Widow's sons to attend with their beautiful motor cycles and the stall was ready at 10:00am. Brother Ricky also had  several collecting tins for Strathcarron Hospice which the Brethren attending did their best to fill. We had many enquiries in the morning sessions with a number of visitors from English Lodges and further afield. Many people noted the charities we donate to as Brother Ricky had many A4 size letters from various charities thanking Lodge Abercromby No.531 for the sums donated. The stall also had the Grand Lodge of Scotland leaflet "An introduction to freemasonry" and a few of these were handed out during my time at the stall.  So we might see some application forms because of this venture. We also had a few Brethren who had not attended their Lodge and were assured of a warm welcome if they decide to comeback among us. I was there from 10am to 1pm and the weather held dry for that time. On leaving I thanked Brother Ricky for his work in bringing our craft into the public gaze. The stall was a positive statement that freemasonry is alive and well.

Prior to Wednesday 24th January 2018 at our Fellowcraft Degree, Substitute Master Brother Stuart Stirling PM very graciously and kindly personally donated and presented the Lodge Carron 139 colours in the form of a Lodge Standard Banner our first ever Banner. PM Stirling stated that it was his wish, due to his long association, respect and strong bond of affection to his Mother Lodge to make such a wonderful gesture. PM Stirling also spoke articulately and powerfully of his wish that Lodge Carron 139 can now proudly carry and display these colours during official processions but more particularly when we accompany local groups when attending the annual Remembrance Parades and Church Services. As can be seen the banner is striking and a magnificent addition to the Lodge Carron 139 history and Lodge furniture and will take pride of place at each meeting. On behalf of everyone associated with Lodge Carron 139 we offer our sincerest gratitude to PM Stirling for such an honourable and magnanimous gesture. RWM Brother Tam Meikle.

100 YEARS CELEBRATION

On Saturday 18th November 2017 I had the pleasure of attending Carronvale Eastern Star Chapter No.64 Centenary Dinner celebrations held at the Bowhouse Community Centre where, along with my wife Amanda, I was invited as a top table guest to deliver the reply to the toast to the Guests and Artistes. Carronvale Chapter No.64 as some may be aware hold their regular meetings within our Lodge premises and it was both an honour and a privilege on behalf of Lodge Carron 139 to have been invited by our good friend, Brother Jimmy Mackie PM 1456, who is the current Most Worthy Patron of Carronvale Chapter. What a marvellous achievement by our Brothers and Sisters in reaching this landmark and the afternoon and evening was a resounding success enjoyed by many members of Lodge Carron 139 who were in attendance. Everyone made both myself and more especially Amanda very welcome and I think I can speak for all from our Mother Lodge who attended, that the meal, speeches were first class followed by brilliant entertainment. Indeed my feet and back are still sore from all the dancing, especially when doing Strip The Willow, a dance I last did at Larbert High School in 1986!!!!!! the ladies certainly know how to enjoy themselves and put us gents to shame. A great day indeed and I was very proud to have represented Lodge Carron 139 on this very special occasion. Brother Tam Meikle RWM
